You might not believe me when I tell you this. I am sure that if I heard it, I would not probably believe it. Nevertheless, there is nothing that encourages people quite as much as cardiovascular pictures to get fit and in shape. I know how doubtful people are about inspirational pics. Everyone has seen that ridiculous poster on the walls of their cubicles - someone climbing a mountain with some caption about "motivation", or "excellence" under it, or some little kitten hanging on to the edge of a table with her claws, beneath which is inscribed, in bubbly cutesy letters, "hold on". It's considered poor taste even to put such thing up - unless you're a middle manager, in which bad taste is considered an asset. Nevertheless, at least with aerobic pics, it's true. The right picture can truly get people going.

I should know. I am a manager at the Skinny Booty Gym down-town, and among my assorted duties is decorating the walls. It has given me a whole lot of time to observe people in their workout plan, and the differences that those aerobic photos make is amazing. I discovered this when I was studying to be a fitness trainer and I realized that the pages in my study guide that had pictures of aerobic people encouraged me to push harder. Before I put them up, many people seemed to be just slogging painfully through their workout program, without hope of ever accomplishing any fitness goals. Since I put up the aerobic pics, however, things have been a great deal different. It is like the aerobic photos give everyone a burst of confidence that makes them practically glow. I know the gleam of sweat, and can tell it from the gleam of confidence. This here is the shimmer of confidence. They look at those cardio pics and stand up straighter, work that much harder, and I believe, go home feeling better about them-selves. Even the aerobic exercise classes seem to go better with the pictures around the room.

I've even taken down my other inspirational posters and put up the aerobic pics around my cubicle in the fitness club. Even when I am not working out, the pictures of fit, trim people doing their aerobics workout program seems to convince me to put just a bit more into whatever I am working on at the moment. You don't have to be interested in a career in personal training to take advantage of this post. There are many versions of decorations which are prettier, more interesting, and more eye-catching than cardiovascular pictures, but I have not found one that has a better effect on the work ethic. And is not that the most critical thing of all?
