Have You Been Told About The Hair Loss Pill
If you swallowed a hair loss pill everyday you would be almost sure of keeping a full head of hair. The pill is named propecia, and it is a creation of scientific serendipity, which is another way of saying that it is a blessed, accidental consequence.
More than 20 years ago, Merck Pharmaceuticals introduced a drug called proscar to the market place. Proscar was authorized for the prevention of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. The active element in proscar is 5mg of finasteride. The pill was taken daily by a group of men that were over 60 years, and who were afflicted with the disorder, BPH. Finasteride was not only discovered to prevent the formation of prostate cancer, but was also found to promote hair growth, and so the hair loss pill was discovered. Further testing by Merck has proven that the minimum effective amount of finasteride was 1mg.
All in all, a two year test carried out on over fifteen hundred adult males showed that 83% of them kept, or in fact, increased their hair mass from the hairline. This one of a kind experiment began more than ten years ago, and it was found that the original test subjects actually maintained those successful results for 4 years after the trial was completed. The 1mg of finasteride was marketed under the brand name, Propecia.
A further result of consuming propecia, is that it affects the levels of testosterone in the body, and hence is available only on prescription. The advice of a physician must be asked for and the suggested dosage followed exactly. Hormonal balances can be fragile and maintaining a regular dosage helps to ensure stability.
The loss of hair might not be a signal that you should commence taking the hair loss pill straight away. There is a natural three stage process of hair loss and regeneration that sometimes, can be literally shocked into a premature hair loss stage. This apparently spontaneous shedding, also called Telegen Effluvium, is not a permanent condition and often leads to replacement hair growth.
Propecia treatment is an extremely gradual process and demands patience on the part of the user. One should not expect results for about three months, with typical regrowth not showing until the 8th month. Maximum results do not appear until at least a year after the beginning of the treatment.
