 The importance of proper cardiovascular shoes is often underrated. People talk about doing the exercises precisely, planning out a routine, eating right, hydrating properly, and all versions of other work-out recommendations, but they hardly ever get to talk about good gym shoes. But ask any fitness trainer and they will tell you how important it's. Of course, if you are taking an aerobics class, then footwear doesn't matter. You will do all of your cardiovascular exercise on a padded mat, and wearing shoes is going to be discouraged, if not outright banned from the class for the sake of preserving the floor. But for many other aerobic exercises (with swimming and a few other excepted) proper aerobic shoes are a necessity. And as a fitness trainer will tell you, you just can't safeguard your feet with-out them.

The form of aerobic shoes depends on what you are doing for your workout. If you're a serious runner, you need to get running shoes. These are lighter than other types of cardio shoes, and thicken padding for where runners need it. They are no good for playing tennis, for example, as they provide virtually no lateral ankle support. For tennis, or most other exercises that involve more than just moving in a straight line, you need a different kind of aerobic shoes: cross trainers or running shoes. Fundamentally, both of these cardiovascular shoes are about the same thing - the contemporary version of the sports club shoe, with a great deal of padding, but still a low top to allow some flexibility and movement at the ankle.

On the other hand, if you play basketball, you need bigger sturdier cardio shoe to adequately safeguard your ankle. These are called high tops, and they run up all the way to the top of the ankle. They are great for this sport, because you're repeatedly jumping high, bursting into sudden sprints in various directions, and doing many other things that can easily injure your ankle. They safeguard you from injuries more effectively than any other sort of cardiovascular shoes, and you will see almost all basketball players wearing them. They're not good for the kinds of sprints that you have in tennis, however, and so are rarely if ever worn by tennis players. Then again, if you are a cross country runner, you need different cardiovascular shoes entirely. They will be kind of a combination between sneakers and light hiking boots, with a fairly light build and a great deal of traction on the bottom. If you go for a career in personal training this is only one of the aspects of fitness you must know all about - but that is another story totally.
