As a wedding day and affair planner, I'm subject to more than my fair share of indignation & rage. You see, until people plan their first wedding, they never think about how much weddings cost. They wish to have low-cost wedding ceremonies, yet they also want to have all of the glitz and glamor. The issue is that, even if you purchase affordable bridal dresses, affordable wedding day cakes, cheap bridesmaid gowns, and all the rest, it will still add up to a lot of money. The bottom line is that, if you wish to have that affordable wedding, you need to be willing to make sacrifices.

I'm not saying that having reasonably priced weddings is impossible. If you are willing to have a small wedding ceremony with only a few of your very best friends there, you are able to do it for quite a reasonable price. You can make it special by incorporating touches like top wedding songs. The problem is that, if having reasonably priced weddings is your intention, you need to plan everything around it. That means that you have to have a small guest list, make reservations at some low-cost place, have some reasonably priced wedding dress, rent a tuxedo for the groom, and play top wedding songs on a less expensive sound system, generally scrimp & save at every opportunity. Some of my customers have actually taken their own wedding day photographs to save on the cost of hiring a wedding photographer!

The bottom line is that the most low-cost wedding ceremonies are done in a judge's office. Everything else that you do costs extra money. Some families go in to debt for years because of what they spend on holding a grand, extravagant wedding. To me, it appears like a pity. When I meet clients who really want to have inexpensive weddings, I tell them to have them in the backyard. That way, they can save on wedding reservations - & play your top wedding songs on a boombox, if necessary! If they're truly ambitious, they can even cater it themselves. If there are going to be more than thirty people there, however, this is generally not an extremely good idea.

I suppose that it all depends on what you expect from your wedding day. When I first got married, all I wished was some uncomplicated ceremony to dedicate my love to my wife. If this is all that you want as well, it is going to be very easy for you to plan some reasonably priced wedding. If, on the flip side of the coin, you want to have an elaborate party with all of your friends & family, you'll have to pay for it.
