A Young Male Needs Treatment For His Extreme Depression, Relationship Problems, And For His Drug Dependency And Alcoholism

Approximately eight months ago I had lunch with a thirty-five-year-old male named Benjamin who suffers from intense depression, has relationship issues, and who is dependent on alcohol and drugs. As explained by Benjamin, it is his drug and alcohol dependency and his extreme depression that has had the most to do with his recurring relationship problems.

As affirmed by Benjamin, he is so overcome by his relationship difficulties and by both of his medical conditions that he in essence has little or no enthusiasm to accomplish much of anything. What is especially sad about this is that earlier in his life, Benjamin completed four semesters of grad school in genetics.

Benjamin's condition makes me question if he is an illustration of a person who can look in the mirror and see his drinking problems and substance abuse and do something positive about these issues. Or, conversely, if he is an individual who has to hit the bottom of the barrel before he gets drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation that leads to long-term recovery.

It may be asked how rehabilitation would help his drug and alcohol dependency. For starters, there are a number of recently produced physician-prescribed drugs that can help Benjamin through the drug and alcohol detox process, through his withdrawal symptoms, and help him avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse. Second, in rehabilitation he could also learn more about his alcoholism symptoms and also about the various stages of alcoholism.

Third, Benjamin would learn to admit the fact that there is completely nothing useful about drug addiction and careless and abusive drinking. In a similar way, he would also learn that engaging in one or both of these unhealthy conditions is the map to poor work and school performance, a premature death, financial difficulties, deteriorating health, shattered relationships, and legal problems. Fourth, treatment for his depression and for his relationship issues might help him manage these psychological difficulties more successfully and possibly create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior. And finally,in rehabilitation he could also learn more about the various symptoms of alcoholism that he has displayed.

Due to the fact that Benjamin lacks the grit to achieve much of anything in his life, it is clear that he definitely needs some hope for a healthier life. And the sad thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Benjamin if he could only get to the point in life to get the therapy he requires for his acute depression and drug addiction and alcoholism and stay with his treatment protocol.

Benjamin is simply too young to be beaten in life. He doesn't comprehend this right now but if he can learn how to refrin from drugs and alcohol through alcohol and drug therapy and get the treatment he needs for his severe depression, he can redirect his life and start living with self-respect, direction, and passion.

More solid relationships, a wonderful life, self esteem, and beneficial change are clearly possibilities for Benjamin. But only if he can get motivated to get the professional treatment he requires, follow through with his therapy program, live his life in an alcohol and drug-free and healthy way, and learn how to cultivate a more positive attitude about his life.
