A Young Lady Prevails Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Rehabilitation For Her Hazardous And Heavy Drinking, And Bolsters Her Self Esteem

Emily was a forty-year-old loan officer who was fed up with feeling depressed on a daily basis and fed up with her excessive and hazardous drinking behavior. Simply put, she was sick of feeling lackluster every morning, she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship due to her excessive drinking, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, and she missed her old motivation for doing various things she enjoyed.

Above and beyond the obvious alcohol-related health problems she was going through, possibly the nastiest part of her drinking routine was the untrustworthy and dishonest person she had turned into. In her heart she knew that she had been deceitful about her drinking behavior to her friends, family, and relatives and she also knew she had been lying to herself about the "beneficial" effects of drinking. Not only this but she made excuses for wolfing down two or three alcoholic beverages before going to social activities and she also rationalized needing one or two drinks as soon as she awakened so that she could cope with the "stress" at work. Simply put, Emily got to a key moment in her life when she finally realized that she hit the bottom of the barrel in her life and was now ready to start the slow road to recovery.

One of the ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by requesting a transfer at her workplace. When her request was granted, she moved 350 miles away to a new location. If nothing else, this without a doubt made making new friends and detaching herself from her old friends easier. Then she visited with a healthcare professional in her new city and made an appointment for a complete physical exam.

After meeting with the doctor and going through several lab tests, it was determined that Emily had made the regrettable transition from alcohol abuse to dependency on alcohol and consequently, needed alcohol detox and alcohol therapy. At this time, the doctor made it a point to go over the various alcoholic symptoms and the familiar symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the healthcare practitioner also told Emily that it was decided that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for this medical problem.

Due to her willingness to follow through with the treatment regimen, after twelve weeks of inpatient treatment, Emily was ready to start therapy on an outpatient basis. At this point, she started working at her new job and over the weeks began fortifying her body by living an alcohol-free way of life, taking vitamins, going to the gym, drinking distilled water, and eating healthy foods.

After just about nine weeks of outpatient rehab during which time she never experienced an alcohol relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol therapy and instead started going three times every week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily continue her alcohol-free style of life, they provided her with the support she needed, and they served as a steady reminder of the negative consequences that are correlated with hazardous and careless drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now pleasurable and loaded with possibilities that she could have never hoped for or achieved while she was involved in careless drinking behavior.
