A Saturday Night Out With School Friends At A Local College Watering Hole Leads To Excessive Drinking And Symptoms Of Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had acquired a reputation as a studious person who rarely, if ever, let her hair down by drinking with her buddies. She seemed determined to "stand out" academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial standpoint.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a well known program in sociology. Her analysis of her options regarding this decision was based on the fact that this academic discipline would be good preparation for law school and would not be identical to the majority of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the type of person who worked diligently to complete what she started and then would take a few days off when she could. It just so happens, nevertheless, that nearly all of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations did not involve drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were done and realizing that she had done a super job on her finals, nevertheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides studying for a change.

So Lois and a few of her friends from school went to a local watering hole where they started to have a few drinks. As the evening advanced, Lois and her friends continued to drink. If truth be told, she was having such a terrific time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around two-and-a-half hours when Lois started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then pass out, however, her buddies immediately realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for medical assistance because they believed that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was conscious of the fact that she came close to dying due to an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was thankful to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her parents realized how rigorously she studied at the university and how little she let herself socialize with her buddies. Nonetheless, they also realized that Lois needed to keep away from irresponsible drinking.

As a consequence, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking opportunity presents itself, that she always drink responsibly and in moderation. Lois was in agreement with this and assured her Mom and Dad and her friends that she would never ever drink in an abusive manner. As stated by Lois, "I never had an inkling that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now know that abusive and irresponsible drinking is not my style. I assure everyone that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also possessed. Stated another way, she instantaneously realized that she had made an error in judgment and decided that she would not make the same error in judgment again. In truth, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of careless and excessive drinking can result in death.
