A Reckless High School Student Manifests Numerous Alcohol-Related Difficulties, Gets Expelled From School, And Has To See The School Counselor

Stephen was a sixteen year old high school sophomore who was exhibiting numerous alcohol-related difficulties at school. For that reason, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school therapist, before he would be allowed to come back to school.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to explain his school discharge to his Mom and Dad. His parents were "fairly conventional" and informed Stephen that getting removed from school was not a viable educational game plan. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would most probably be like a lead weight around his feet that may hurt his educational aspirations for the remainder of his adult life. What is more, Stephen's Mother and Father were quite unhappy that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.

It was evident that his parents were in total accord with Stephen's principal and told Stephen that he had better come to the understanding that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school counselor. After his dialogue with his parents, Stephen in due course agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Pender the next morning before school.

When Stephen went to see Miss Pender, she at once examined all of the alcohol-related issues Stephen had experienced and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of anxiety by the school administrators.

Quite sincerely, Stephen was unsure why the principal suggested that he see a school therapist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional psychologist about his drinking circumstances? Due to the fact that virtually all of his classmates drink the same amount that he does, in essence, drinking is no big issue. Stated differently, if almost everybody is drinking, why is this such a major problem?

In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to thwart his ability to act like an accountable young man. As verbalized by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your buddies drink alcohol does not mean that it's the best thing in the world for you."

Luckily, Miss Pender was well prepared for her discussion with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had highlighted that outlined various drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a lot of figures and reports that applied especially to teens.

After Miss Pender presented the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was clear that what Miss Pender taught Stephen was a wake up call for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to give an explanation of the long term and the short term consequences of alcoholism and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to verify what she was saying with alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that related to everyone, and principally to young people.

In actual fact, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately comprehended why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his classmates any longer. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the material she presented and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
