A Bouncer At An Exclusive Saloon Discovers Why Alcohol Poisoning Signs And Symptoms Can Save Another Person's Life

Just a week ago, Ryan applied for a position as a bouncer at one of the local clubs. He had studied aikido, judo, karate, ninjitsu, and gatka for eleven years; he was a personal trainer; he took daily vitamins, minerals, and supplements; he was into healthy eating and health foods; and he seemed like a natural for such a job. When Ryan got the announcement that he had been chosen for the job, he was very happy. Due to the fact that this was an exclusive disco, nonetheless, he had to go through a two week instructional class.

On the very first day of class, the teacher started talking about drinkers who drink in a hazardous manner and what the bartenders, barmaids, and bouncers should do when this state of affairs arises. When the lecturer started discussing alcohol poisoning, Ryan was delighted to find out that all of the new bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids had to learn about an alcohol overdose and precisely what they should do when they witnessed a person who was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms or exhibiting the signs of alcohol poisoning.

More precisely, all the new barmaids, bouncers, and bartenders learned that nausea and vomiting were almost without exception one of the first signs of alcohol poisoning and that unconsciousness was most likely the most highly visible alcohol overdose sign or symptom. The instructor went out of his way to underline the fact that alcohol poisoning symptoms were signals from the brain and from the body that the drinker had ingested more alcohol than his or her body can process.

There were, however, more than a few other symptoms and signs of alcohol poisoning that all the new bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids were taught to be conversant with. For example, the students in the class were made aware that drinkers with alcohol poisoning exhibit confusion, exhibit poor reflex responses, often have seizures, and they are difficult to awaken.

In addition, the students in the class learned that many drinkers who have alcohol poisoning also exhibit slurred speech; blue tinged or pale skin; little response from painful stimuli, for instance from pinching; and slow, shallow or irregular breathing.

To demonstrate the impact that binge drinking has on alcohol poisoning, the lecturer informed the students in the class that a person who gets smashed just once or twice per year is, by definition, involving himself or herself in abusive drinking. Such a person, however, is most likely not an alcohol dependent individual, but is almost certainly engaging in binge drinking. As stated by the trainer, engaging in binge drinking even one time, unfortunately, can lead to an alcohol overdose that in extreme instances can be lethal.

The lecturer then explained to the students in the class that the most fitting response for an alcohol overdose is the following: if it is suspected that a drinker is suffering from an alcohol overdose, call 911 and ask for immediate medical assistance, even if the drinker is underage. By pursuing this course of action, the drinker will get the prompt alcohol poisoning medical attention she or he needs.

After learning about alcohol poisoning and particularly about the symptoms and signs of alcohol poisoning, it may be pointed out, Ryan realized that he had discovered some critical information that might save a person's life in the foreseeable future. Unmistakably, Ryan learned that knowledge of the typical alcohol poisoning symptoms and signs and knowing how to quickly and appropriately react to such symptoms and signs (by promptly calling 911 and asking for urgent medical assistance) can help a drinker avoid a deadly case of alcohol poisoning.
